Who We Are

We’re a community of men and women, married and single, young and old.

We’re a blend of lots of colors, and traditions, backgrounds, and experiences.

We’re convinced that the Bible is true, God is real, Jesus is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is alive.

We’re a church – a model of the same church that began in the first century AD, that’s described in the Bible, primarily in the New Testament book of Acts.

We’re a church, but we’re not a building. We have a building we meet in, but a church isn’t a building – It’s a group of people who love God, follow Jesus, received the Holy Spirit, and worship and serve God together as a family of believers.

We’re people who like to laugh, sing, share, learn, eat, drink coffee, play basketball (and other sports), and care for people within our own church community, but everywhere else, too.

We’re focused on the most important message in all the world - the gospel.  It’s the good news that Jesus, the living God, came to the earth as a man, lived a perfect life, died a sacrificial death, rose from the grave in victory over sin and death, and for those who place their trust in his life, death, and resurrection, they can receive pardon from God for their sins, adoption into His eternal family as His children, an eternal inheritance that can’t be lost, and full, abundant life right now!

We’re committed to share the gospel through evangelismgrow in spiritual maturity through discipleship, and advance the kingdom of God through making new churches.

We’re convinced that Jesus has open arms for anyone to come to him – in any condition.  But look out!  Once we commit our lives to Christ, He begins a process of transformation in us that changes us from who we were into His likeness.  The two question we have to answer are, (1) is the Bible reliable, and (2) is Jesus trustworthy?  Because if the answer is yes to those questions, whatever the Bible teaches and whatever Jesus says will always be for God’s glory and our best interest.

We’re always open to meeting more people and making new friends.  We hope you’ll find it enjoyable to join us, comfortable to ask questions, easy to find a place to get connected, and rewarding to get to know people from this community.

We’re committed to (1) meet together each Sunday to enjoy our church family because we like each other, (2) to worship God together by praying, singing, and sharing about what God’s doing in our lives and all around the world, and (3) to build up believers to be better equipped as followers of Jesus through the instruction we receive from the Bible, so we can be sent out to rep Jesus to others in the world.  But we do a lot more, too!

We’re Valley Bible Church.  At the Crossing in Pleasanton.  And at the Altamont in Livermore.

What We Believe

SCRIPTURE: We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error and the final authority on all doctrine and how to live life.  [2 Timothy 3:16-17, John 10:34-35, 2 Peter 1:19-21, 1 Corinthians 2:7–13, Mark 12:36]

GOD: We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world. [Matthew 28:18-19, 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 John 4:2-3, Psalm 90:2, James 1:17, Psalm 139:7–12, Ephesians 2:4–5, 1 John 4:7–8]

JESUS CHRIST: Jesus Christ is the Eternal Son of God. While remaining fully God, He became fully man. He fulfilled Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah. As the God-man He secured for humanity all that was necessary for forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God. [John 1:1; John 1:14, Colossians 1:15-19, Matthew 1:25, Philippians 2:5-11, John 19:30, Romans 3:24-26]

THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Holy Spirit is a divine person, co-equal with the Father and the Son. His role is to glorify Christ by convincing the sinner that they need Christ and then by making the Savior real to the believer by indwelling, sealing, guiding, teaching, protecting, empowering, and gifting each disciple. [John 14:26, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, Romans 8:26-27, Galatians 4:6]

HUMANITY: We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.  [Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 3:22-23; Romans 3:20; Romans 3:23]

SALVATION: We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.  [Romans 6:23; John 3:16; John 14:6, Romans 10:9-10, Hebrews 9:26-28]

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.  [1 Peter 1:14-16, John 14:15, John 15:12-13, Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:16-18, Philippians 2:1-11, 2 Corinthians 3:18]

THE CHURCH: We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world. [1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:15-16, Matthew 28:19-20]

THE FUTURE: Jesus Christ will return bodily to the earth in order to set up His kingdom; He will thwart all rebellion once and for all as He reigns and lives with His people forever. His return will usher in the eternal state centered on the new earth in the new heavens.  [Acts 1:11, Matthew 16:27, Revelation 20:11-15, Revelation 21:1-5]
